Indian streaming platform JioHotstar has entered Nepal through a partnership with local OTT platform DGO, expanding its international presence following launches in the UK, Canada, Singapore and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

The partnership brings a dedicated JioHotstar content section to DGO, offering Nepali viewers access to Indian blockbuster films, original series, television shows, reality programmes and children’s content through a single subscription.

The launch catalogue includes films such as Bhediya, 12th Fail, Kesari Chapter 2, Super 30 and Welcome to the Jungle. Subscribers will also be able to watch JioHotstar Originals and series, including Hunkkaar, Pritam & Pedro, Ali Baba Aur 40 Bhoot, Special Ops and Chiraiya.

Indian content alongside Nepali films and live sports

The addition of JioHotstar expands DGO’s existing catalogue of Nepali films and entertainment. DGO says it will continue adding a new Nepali film every week, keeping local productions part of its content offering.

Subscribers can also access live international sports, including LaLiga football, MotoGP and the Carabao Cup, without purchasing separate add-ons, according to the announcement.

The partnership combines Indian entertainment, Nepali films and international sports within one subscription, targeting viewers in Nepal as well as Nepalis living abroad.

Commenting on the launch, Amit Malhotra, Head of International Business at JioStar, said Nepal was an important market for the platform because of its longstanding audience for Indian films, television programmes and talent.

He said the partnership with DGO would allow JioHotstar to reach Nepali audiences through a local platform while expanding its international presence.

Roshan Niraula, CEO of DGO, described the partnership as a milestone for the company and Nepal’s entertainment industry. He said DGO aims to bring together Indian films and series, Nepali movies and live international sports at prices designed for local viewers.

JioHotstar expands its international reach

JioHotstar says it has 500 million monthly active users and a library of more than 300,000 hours of programming across 19 languages. Its content includes films, original productions, live sports, live events, anime, children's entertainment and television programmes from more than 100 channels in the JioStar network.

The Nepal launch is part of the company's broader international expansion strategy, which includes direct launches in the UK, Canada and Singapore, as well as partnerships with platforms such as STARZPLAY and DGO.

DGO, meanwhile, is a Nepal-licensed subscription streaming platform offering Nepali films, web series, live television and sports. The company says it has 1.3 million registered users and 350,000 monthly active users, with viewers in more than 15 countries.

The addition of JioHotstar strengthens DGO’s entertainment catalogue and gives Nepali viewers access to a wider range of Indian content through its existing platform.
